Jeff Lamb, Paul McGrotty and Derek Sweetman said farewell to their time as the management team of Ascot United on Saturday, and sat down with Mark Pugh for a revealing interview after the game.
The Yellamen lost 3-1 at home to Royal Wootton Bassett Town despite Jack Smillie putting the home side in front, and McGrotty said he believed the lack of desire and urgency in the second half summed up the season and justified the trio’s decision to step aside.
Coach Derek Sweetman said that he believe the club young kids that are in the squad are the future of the club, and that the club was setup well to produce that on a regular basis.
Lamb says in the interview that the youth system will undoubtedly be basis of everything the club do in the future and that it was ‘a massive bonus having that system in place, and what the club do in the future’.
The trio also talk about the players who left the Racecourse Ground in the summer, their impact on football in the area with three good sides in and around Bracknell and how they felt they had a side good enough to go on and win the league in 2016/17 at the end of last season.
