Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division North Reading City have signed up experience defender Gareth Thomas.

Formerly a Thatcham Town stalwart, Thomas was most recently with Wokingham & Emmbrook after coming out of retirement.

He played twice for the Sumas before the departure of manager Eliot Whitehouse and opted to move on to league rivals Reading.

As well as plenty of playing experience, Thomas has been in the managerial hot seat himself having had a spell leading Thatcham, and more recently Tadley Calleva.

Cityzens boss Simon Johnson, speaking to the club website said: “We’ve been looking to add a centre back to the squad for a while. Someone with Gaz’s experience was a no brainer. Still got plenty of life in him and he is a top addition to the squad. Welcome Gaz”.
