Reading FC’s James Holden makes permanent move

The shot stopper had loan spells with Bracknell Town and Maidenhead United

Reading FC’s young goalkeeper James Holden has made a permanent move to another EFL side.

Holden, who had loan spells with Bracknell Town and most recently Maidenhead United, has signed on a permanent move to Cambridge United.

BerkshireLive reports Holden as saying about his move to the Abbey Stadium: “It was quite an easy decision for me. I just want to push the other goalkeepers as much as possible, get them to push me, develop as much as I can and see what opportunities come about.”

Holden had been on loan at the Magpies since the summer having previously spent an emergency loan spell with the club at the end of the 2020/21 season where he kept a clean sheet in the draw with Yeovil Town.

The goalkeeper began the season as the York Road number one, the Magpies winning their opening two fixtures but was sent off in the sixth game of the season at home to Stockport County and wasn’t seen again until the 4-0 defeat by Boreham Wood 10 matches later.
