Former Binfield forward Jemel Johnson has been snapped up by Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division North side Reading City.

The Cityzens revealed the news on social media, just over a week after Johnson announced his departure from the Moles.

Johnson was praised by his Binfield teammates for his contributions both on and off the pitch at Hill Farm Lane last season as the Moles reached the final of the FA Vase – and is the only player to be part of both Berkshire teams at the time of their Vase final appearances.

The forward – previously with Thatcham Town – was called a ‘fantastic leader’ by his new manager Simon Johnson on the club’s website: “We have been looking to add some experience to the squad over the summer and who better than Jemel? He’s been involved in a lot of winning environments and is a fantastic leader, this will really help our young squad to kick on. He’s a top, top player, and I really look forward to working with him this season. Welcome JJ!”

Johnson’s side kick-off their pre-season campaign on Saturday with a visit of Chipping Sodbury – the game is being played at the Ibis Club, next door to the Rivermoor Stadium on Scours Lane. A full list of all the pre-season fixtures in Berkshire is here.
