It’s party time in the Barratt household, former Woodley United and Bracknell Town winger Sam Barratt has signed a professional contract.

After three seasons with Maidenhead United where he picked up a National League South winners medal, Barratt has signed forms with EFL League One side Southend United.

According to the Southend Echo, Shrimpers boss Chris Powell was keen to sign a new winger following the decision to release Jermaine McGlashan – coincidentally a player with ties to Bracknell after a loan spell with the Robins in the Southern League.

Barratt announced the news on Facebook and is a dream come true for the youngster who had pledged to make it as a professional footballer. He had previously had trials at Bristol Rovers and Crystal Palace. He’s already made headway in winning over supporters at Roots Hall.

During his time with Maidenhead Sam won two England C caps, one a start against Slovakia, the other as a late substitute against Wales.
