So far so 24/25. The Thames Valley Premier League title is going to be a tough one to wrestle off of Devonn Reid’s Westwood Wanderers side – that doesn’t mean they don’t have challengers however.
Wanderers made it a year unbeaten when they won 1-0 against Newbury Town 10 days ago, but Westwood’s nearest challengers so far didn’t let the hangover linger thanks to a 3-1 win over promotion hopefuls Maidenhead Town.
The Newbury revolution continues off the pitch with efforts to drive crowd numbers back to Faraday Road. The club are targeting crowds in three figures this season and are pulling out all the stops with their matchday offering.
Saturday’s game against Maidenhead saw food on site, merchandise including the clubs rather fine Macron home shirt, entertainment for the kids and a fully licensed bar.
On the pitch, Newbury are six points off leaders Westwood now after seven games – and Westwood opened up the goal difference between the sides with a 10-0 win over Finchampstead.
Wargrave, AFC Winkfield and Reading City Reserves are the other sides jostling for early positions at the top of the the table and all three won their fixtures.
It is neck and neck in Division One as well after five matches. Cookham Dean and Caversham United have each won four and lost one of their opening games with Dean top by virtue of a Goal Difference of 15 to the Goats 14.
