FA Cup: Bracknell Town through but Maidenhead United crash to Isthmian League side

Bracknell Town overcame stubborn Tadley Calleva on Saturday in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round to give new boss Matthew Saunders a win in his first game.

The Robins went into the game as favourites, but there were echoes of Tadley’s previous fixture in the competition when they beat heavy favourites Weymouth 4-2 – both Bracknell and the Terras made managerial changes in the build-up to the match.

Defender Sam Magri broke the deadlock on the hour mark for Bracknell, alert at the far post to finish from a corner while Alfie Pavey made it safe on 72 minutes.

For Tadley, a club record FA Cup run ends. The Romans have seen the BBC cameras visit, a proper ‘cupset’ and interest in the club heightened, attention will turn now to another run at the Combined Counties League play-offs.

For Bracknell, the serious business of getting up the league begins for former Notts County assistant Saunders.

Draw: FA Cup Third Qualifying Round

Across the way at York Road, Maidenhead United’s dreadful FA Cup record continued with defeat to Isthmian League Division One South East Faversham Town. Tashi-Jay Kwayie scored the only goal of the game to put the Kent side into the Third Qualifying Round.

Conor McDonagh looks back to his best at Hungerford Town. The Crusaders frontman scored a hat-trick as Swindon Supermarine were swatted aside 3-0 while Slough Town will go again on Tuesday night at Welling United after Peter Ojemen’s opener was cancelled out in a 1-1 draw at Arbour Park.
