Maidenhead United’s survival chances boosted after Tamworth

It’s a rollercoaster following Maidenhead United, but survival chances were boosted after a 3-1 win at home to Tamworth.

‘Staying up’ is very much in Alan Devonshire’s sides hands with Wealdstone, Ebbsfleet United, Boston United and Woking all to come in the remaining five games and a huge three points against the Lambs after a disappointing defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge was just the tonic.

Shawn McCoulsky opened the scoring after 24 minutes and on 52 minutes the lead was doubled with a goal that, depending on where you look, has been credited to either McCoulsky or Brendan Kiernan.

Tamworth pulled one back from the penalty spot but the game was safe on 89 minutes when Joshua Johnson scored one on one after good work by substitute Sam Barratt.

The result keeps Maidenhead in with a shout of avoiding the drop, just two points short of safety with five to play.

In Combined Counties League Division One, the coronation of Windsor & Eton as champions is on hold after a 1-0 defeat to Brook House while the race for the Premier Division North play-offs Harefield United leapfrogged Holyport who didn’t play, while Burnham were held to a 1-1 draw at Ardley United.

Berks County’s survival is on a knife edge after Risborough Rangers won 2-1 against Wembley and Edgware & Kingsbury drew 2-2 with Wokingham Town.

Edgware need two points from their last two games while a point would save Risborough, relegating The Swords.
