Berkshire trio through as FA Vase Third Round throws up away days

Never in any doubt right? Certainly Windsor & Eton and Tadley Calleva bounded into the FA Vase Third Round with rousing victories at home while Burnham made harder work of things with a 1-0 win at the 1878 Stadium (Wandering Tractor report here).

Windsor & Eton caused an ‘upset’ as they beat Combined Counties Premier Division North Hilltop 5-0 at Stag Meadow sent Bridgwater United packing with a 4-1 win at Barlows Park.

Deja vu at Barlows certainly, in the First Round Ivybridge Town took an early lead only to be humbled into submission. Bridgwater did similar with a third minute lead, this time however Tadley quickly took control with a reply a minute later from Kieran Rodgers who would go on to score a hat-trick.

It was much simpler for Windsor, Pawel Kowallkowski scored after seven minutes and the Royalists lead 2- 0 at half-time. So much for dented confidence after a rare defeat in midweek.

All three sides then through to the FA Vase Third Round with echoes of 2017/18 when the trio of Bracknell Town, Thatcham Town and Windsor all reached the Quarter Finals – Thatcham of course famously going on to lift the trophy at Wembley Stadium.

The games don’t get any easier in the FA Vase with the last 32 – Third Round – whittling the group down to some of the best Step 5 and 6 sides in the country.

Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division leaders VCD Athletic stand in the way of Windsor & Eton while Combined Counties League Premier Division South promotion chasers AFC Whyteleafe host Tadley Calleva.

Burnham may fancy their chances, CCL Premier Division South strugglers Epsom & Ewell are the blues opponents. All three teams have been drawn away from home.
