Bracknell Town bounce back as Reading City ease out Wokingham & Emmbrook

Bracknell Town bounced back from an opening day defeat to record an impressive victory over Didcot Town at Bottom Meadow in the Southern League.

New captain Ashley Lodge starred as the Robins – back in a more traditional red and white strip – beat the Railwaymen 5-1 to put a smile on supporters faces.

That’s not to say Bracknell had it all their own way, Didcot opened the scoring on 49 minutes before Lodge levelled on the hour.

The Robins express then hit full throttle with 10 minutes to play, Zidan Akers made it 2-1 with an own goal following for 3-1.

Then, two goals in injury time as Jordan Esprit got a much need strike and substitute Nana Owusu made it a 5-1 rout.

An early season Berkshire derby is next up with Hungerford Town at Bottom Meadow – the Crusaders have opened with a big win over Plymouth Parkway before a defeat to Chesham United on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Reading City ‘started as they mean to go on’ with a 3-1 win over Wokingham & Emmbrook. Both sides impressed in the FA Cup last weekend but it was the Cityzens who took the opening day points at The Rivermoor.

Tyler D’Cruz opened the scoring in the first half for his first of the season but Jake Woods levelled up from the penalty spot on the hour.

Josh Baines then converted City’s own penalty and Joe Pilling got the third in a game watched by the Deputy Mayor of Wokingham Councillor Adrian Mather and covered live by Hospital Radio Reading.

Early days in Combined Counties League Division One but both Langley and Eversley & California have maximum points from their opening two games while Yateley United have seven from three.

Langley beat Oxhey Jets 2-0 with goals from Edward Clements and Chevy Hart while Eversley beat Brook House 3-1 courtesy of strikes from Callum Samuel-Harman, Harvey Valter and Joe Pantony. Meanwhile Yateley played out a seven goal thriller with FC Deportivo Galicia courtesy of a Bradley Timson strike and a Sam Head hat-trick – his third a second-half injury time winner.
