Burghfield are Berkshire’s sole representatives in the 2021/22 FA Sunday Cup after the Reading & District Sunday League side knocked out Singh Sabha Slough in the First Round on Sunday with a 4-3 win.

The game, played at Burnham’s superb 1878 Stadium, saw a number of players familiar to Football in Berkshire readers feature and one of those – Binfield’s Josh Howell, but the West Berkshire side a goal up in the first half from the penalty while Harry Laflin scored twice for Singh Sabha.

Burghfield lead 2-0 through Jack Bowyer and Ollie Brown made it 3-1 in the second-half only for the Slough side to level things up in stoppage-time.

Ryan Farmer though proved to be the hero for Burghfield, as the blues match report tells it: “With the game looking as though it would be decided by penalties, a dramatic finish followed deep into added time, as Ryan Farmer rose highest to meet a free-kick into the box and beat the Singh Sabha goalkeeper and send us through to the next round.”

Among the other familiar faces in action were Howell’s Binfield teammate Kensley Maloney who featured for Singh Sabha along with Marlow’s Baboucarr Jarra, Usman Lalustani and Riccardo Cannon.

Burghfield have now been drawn at ‘home’ (expected to be the 1878 Stadium again) to Banstead Rovers of the Leatherhead & District Senior League on Sunday 16th January 2022 at 1:00 pm.

There was one other club in the competition under the greater Berks & Bucks County FA banner – MK Galacticos of the Milton Keynes Senior League – they bowed out of the competition with a 3-1 defeat at Wixams Wanderers while champions (the last time the competition was played in 2019/20) Campfield saw their game postponed but beaten finalists St Joseph’s Luton went out on penalties to Club Lewsey.
