If you were out looking for goals on Tuesday night then you Stag Meadow was the place to be as Windsor and Reading City hit a total of seven in a see-saw of a Berkshire derby.
It was Windsor’s opening game in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division North after defeat on Sunday in the FA Cup, and they wasted no time in setting up a proper goal-fest when Lindell Stewart scored after 14 minutes.
The Cityzens though rocketed back, as you would expect from a side with two competitive wins and Mitchell Parker leading the line. It was his strike partner though, Jemel Johnson who levelled it up on 21 before Parker made it 2-1 two minutes later.
City were behind to an early goal in their opening league game against Southall and the armchair supporter might have expected them to take the game on and the three points, but the Royalists Stewart had other ideas and scored twice more before half time to send Mark Cooper’s team in 3-2 at half time.
New signing Charlie Losasso then made it 4-2 while Parker hit back for City on 74 minutes but was then shown a red card in injury time.
Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Holyport were beaten 4-1 at home by Egham Town – Jamie Wakes with Port’s goal, while in Division One Woodley United suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Bagshot and Wallingford Town beat Eversley & California 3-2.
There is one Berkshire tie on Wednesday night as Sandhurst Town travel to British Airways in Division One. A round-up of the FA Cup action is here. More Wednesday night fixtures here.
