Both Ascot United and Reading City made their way safely through the Extra Preliminary Round of the 2021/22 FA Cup over three days of knockout football at the weekend.
The Yellamen beat Holyport and the Cityzens beat Hallen to head through but Windsor fell at the first hurdle on Sunday at home to Tuffley Rovers despite leading the visitors twice.
Ascot vs Holyport was watched by 450 supporters on Tuesday night and it was goals from Harry Laflin, George Lock and Duarte Surpanu that did for the Yellamen’s Berkshire visitors while Reading City’s new signing Jemel Johnson was on the scoresheet along with Josh Baines and Jude Van Spall in the Cityzens 3-1 win at the Rivermoor.
Wokingham & Emmbrook will head back to Easington Sports on Tuesday night for a replay after Liam Eagle’s opener was cancelled out. The replay was due to be held at Lowther Road but both sides will reconvene in Oxfordshire on Tuesday night as the Sumas ground is unavailable.
Virginia Water also face a replay after a 1-1 draw with Athletic Newham. Casey Bocarro scored for Ceri Jones’ side and they’ll do it all again on Wednesday night.
There will be no further FA Cup action for Windsor though, their fixture on Sunday at Stag Meadow saw them beaten 3-2 by Tuffley Rovers.
Mark Cooper’s side lead through Charlie Jaggers and then again through Eric Sowonola but the Gloucestershire side twice equalised and won the game in the 68th minute.
Those results mean the draw for the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup for our Berkshire sides is:
- Risborough Rangers vs Ascot United
- Harefield United vs Binfield
- Bracknell Town vs Calne Town OR Bashley (replay Tuesday)
- Broadfield United vs Reading City
- Thame United vs Thatcham Town
- Hanwell Town vs Virginia Water OR Athletic Newham (replay Wednesday)
