Hungerford Town’s National League South unbeaten home run ends

Crusaders fall to defeat at home to Hampton & Richmond Borough

Hungerford Town went into Tuesday night’s clash with Hampton & Richmond Borough top of the National League South after clinching their fifth win of the season on Saturday.

However, the Crusaders finished the evening in second after finding themselves on the receiving end of a 1-0 score-line courtesy of a 52nd minute Niko Muir winner.

The result also meant that Hungerford’s impressive unbeaten home run came to an end too.

Callum Willmoth almost put the hosts in front with 20 minutes on the clock, but his effort from outside the box was saved by Hampton ‘keeper Alan Julian.

Up the other end, Jake Grey missed an effort from close range for the visitors before Luke Cairney was forced into a save three minutes later.

Despite chances falling to both sides in the opening 45 minutes, it proved to be a stalemate first half at Bulpit Lane.

Hungerford were yet to concede on home turf this season until Hampton put their noses in front on 52 minutes thanks to Muir who poked home Imran Uche’s cross.

Ryan Seager saw a shot well saved by Julian with 19 minutes remaining as Hampton held on to clinch their second victory of the season.

Crusaders boss Danny Robinson spoke to Hungerford’s media team and although he was disappointed with the result, he remains proud of the ‘blood’, ‘sweat’ and ‘character’ his side continue to show.

Slough Town’s postponement

Slough Town’s trip to Chippenham Town on Tuesday night was postponed following potential Covid-19 cases within both sides.

A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.
