Reading City advanced to the First Round Proper of the Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday despite a late charge from Woodley United in a 3-2 win.

The Cityzens lead their tenants Woodley 2-0 at half time at the Rivermoor through a Tyler D’Cruz double and the forward had his hat-trick on the 50th minute, heading past Perry Howard in the Kestrels goal.

The fightback came with 20 minutes to go though when Max Laschok scored, and he got the home sides second 11 minutes later to set up a tense final nine minutes – but the Cityzens held on.

Elsewhere in the Vase, it was a bad day on the road for AFC Aldermaston in Gloucestershire as the Atom Men lost 5-0 to Premier Division Brimscombe & Thrupp while a spirited Wokingham & Emmbrook lost 2-0 at Longlevens. Read Rob Davies’ report from Saw Mills here.

Vanarama National League

Hungerford Town are yet to conced a league goal this season and made it two from two in the Vanarama National League South as they won 2-0 at Tonbridge Angels on Saturday.

Second half goals from Ryan Seager and James Harding did for Danny Robinson’s men who sit second in the league behind Dorking Wanderers who were 3-1 winners over Slough Town at Meadowbank despite the Rebels opening the scoring through a Edward Harris own goal.

Meanwhile, Maidenhead United’s poor start to the season continued with a 4-0 home defeat to National League leaders Hartlepool United.
