Binfield striker Asa Povey broke the deadlock on Tuesday night for the Moles in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie at Westbury United in Wiltshire.

The tie was goalless at the break despite chances for both sides but it was Povey – scorer of 10 goals in 20 games last season – who struck first for the Berkshire side at the restart.

And with 11 minutes to go new signing Tom Willment made things safe for the Moles against the Western League Premier Division side converting from a corner to make it 2-0 and put Binfield into the Preliminary Round at home to AFC Totton.

Football in Berkshire’s Rob Davies was on hand to watch Windsor’s 2-1 win at Aylesbury Vale Dynamos, you can read his full report here.

Elsewhere, heartbreak for Ascot United who went out on penalties after leading 1-0 at Christchurch with 15 minutes to go through Aiden Higgs.

The home side levelled in injury time and with the adapted FA rules, the game went straight to penalties in which the Yellamen were defeated 7-6. The Ascot report is here.

Combined Counties League Division One Sandhurst Town, under new manager Ben Nwachukwu faced a tough ask at Wessex Premier AFC Portchester but the Fizzers held their higher division opponents at 1-0 down at half-time before conceding three times in the second half to exit the FA Cup 4-0.

Hellenic League Premier Virginia Water also exited the competition with a tight 1-0 defeat at Spelthorne Sports.

Finally, in non-Berkshire, but played in Berkshire news, Basingstoke Town beat Bournemouth 5-4 on penalties at The Rivermoor. The Dragons were made to work hard to progress in the competition, resolute defending, a missed penalty and stunning a late equaliser from Adam Everiss to make 1-1 in normal time were all part of a tough nights work.
