The first encounter between these two teams for nigh on fifteen years took place at Wheatsheaf Park in almost biblical conditions through torrents of rain, and with an ever changing gusty wind of weather warning proportions.

Both teams took to the field in a state of flux this afternoon as they had both appointed new managers in contrasting circumstances, and also both teams were giving debuts (I believe this to be the case) to goalkeepers in these tricky conditions.

Luca and myself were engaged in match commentary on Sportscene on www.radiowey.org for this match, so I am having to write this match report from memory i.e. it’s going to have less detail than usual (some might say thank goodness!).

The first meaningful action of this fast paced game in the 4th minute when Joey Taylor swung in a free kick from the Staines right and it was flicked on by a Robins head straight past James Hoskins into the back of his own net to give the home side an early advantage at 1-0!

Despite conceding early on Bracknell Town started to settle into their game plan, and they broke away through Dan Carr down the left flank forcing Jacob Adams to rush off his line and bring him down.  The resulting free kick was floated into the box, and although cleared the ball eventually found its’ way to Dan Bayliss on the right, and he put in a cross which Rob Sheridan met on the half volley to thunder it in off the underside of the bar to draw the scores level at 1-1 on the 11th minute.

Nathan Minhas had found himself through on goal, but The Swans keeper Adams made a splendid save with his body to keep things level.

Goals were coming at 7 minute intervals as on the 18th minute Kensley Maloney (back in the team having moved to Harrow Borough in the summer) play Seb Bowerman in on goal, and he took it in his stride to run on, and slot the ball under Adams to give The Robins a 2-1 lead !

Even though the match was very open it was The Robins who gave themselves a two goal advantage as Bowerman got down the left before cutting the ball back to Carr who rifled a low shot past Adams on the 25th minute to make it 3-1 !

Although Bracknell pushed to increase the lead through Bayliis, Sheridan, Minhas & Bowerman superb goalkeeping from Adams and the woodwork kept the score as it was at the end of the first half.

Half time: Staines Town 1 – 3 Bracknell Town

The Swans showed moments of promise at the start of the second half, but they couldn’t test Hoskins as The Robins defence held firm, especially Geoff Kibaki at right back who broke up many attacks when pressured.

Adams was called into action once more to keep Carr’s effort out when he look to have been beaten, only to find himself undone by a Bowerman free kick from the left which caught a gust of wind leaving him out of position as it sailed over his head into the roof of the net on the 58th minute meaning that was 4-1 to the visitors.

A near post corner kick saw Bayliss head home making it 5-1 on the 63rd minute, and one really had to feel for Staines Town as it would have been easy to fold completely with half an hour still to play.

As it was The Robins seemed satisfied with their afternoon’s work, and it was Staines who had more possession even if they still weren’t really able to threaten the visitors goal meaning that the match finished 5-1 !

I really must say that if it hadn’t of been for Jacob Adams we could truly have been looking at a score in double figures, so despite the score I would say that he was my Man of the Match, although Luca plumped for Seb Bowerman from the Bracknell squad.

Full time: Staines Town 1 – 5 Bracknell Town

Mark Tallentire and Aaron Steadman will feel very satisfied with the way that the team played, and will look to take that into their midweek encounter against Chalfont St Peter at Larges Lane on Wednesday 6th November in the Velocity Trophy, and then on Saturday 9th November they host Waltham Abbey in the BetVictor South Central Division.

Bracknell Town: Hoskins, Kibaki, Genovesi, Bayliss, Sheridan, Carr (Farren), Herbert (Brown), Minhas, Maloney, Bowerman (James) and Bayley (C) Unused Subs: Davies and Darboe
