Extra time defeat for Berks County in Reading Senior Cup

Watching via the medium of twitter, this was a proper cup tie for Berks County as they battled Holyport in the first round of the Reading Senior Cup on Thursday night.

County – who re-signed former Swordsman Ollie Noyes in the week – led three times at Summerleaze but were eventually beaten 4-3 in extra time.

Jack Robson opened the scoring in the first half for County but Holyport equalised from the spot in the second half – a moment captured on video below:

Mike Shields gave the Greens a 2-1 lead but another penalty for the home side levelled things up before Billy Batterbee made it 3-2 to County with full time looming.

County couldn’t hold on though and Ellis Wake poked home Holyport’s third equaliser of the night with three minutes left on the clock to send the tie in to extra time – the home side scoring in the first 15 minutes to win the tie and advance to a second round match at home to Binfield.

‘It’s only built on the hunger for us to progress up another Division’

Both sides congratulated each other with post match tweets, but County’s exertions certainly highlighted the clubs ambitions with a tweet saying: ‘@holyportfc Thank you to you for hosting a great night. It’s only built on the hunger for us to progress up another Division.’

County chairman Richard Lloyd tweeted: ‘Football is a cruel sport, certainly it’s rarely fair in a sprint. But our lads gave a fair fight and couldve been celebrating tonight.’
