Woodley United earned a valuable point on their Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East promotion charge in difficult conditions at Bicester Town on Wednesday night.

The Kestrels fell behind to a 47th minute opener after going in to the break level but Dan Horscroft rescued Michael Herbert’s side fifteen minutes later when he headed home Jake Nicholls free kick.

The 1-1 draw was United’s second of the season in the league and the point moves them to within touching distance of the top three.

Herbert’s side have two games in hand in the league on two of the top three but will only overhaul Penn if the reigning champions drop points – they will however be five points clear of the chasing pack IF they can win their spare fixtures.

Post match, Herbert posted on twitter: “Great team spirit and good second half performance. Could prove to be a good point.”

Note: An earlier version of this story suggested Woodley were up to second – this error occurred because an incorrect result had been loaded on to the FA’s Full Time website. Apologies for any confusion.
