Thursday nights prestigious pre season friendly at Hill Farm Lane ended in a heavy defeat for Binfield as Hungerford Town left with a 4-0 win.

The game was Binfield’s final warm up before the trip to Henley Town on Tuesday night for the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League opener and credit is due to the Moles for organising a test against a side three levels above them in the English football pyramid.

Always on the money, Binfield’s twitter account said: “Got run ragged by a very good Hungerford squad at times but always tried to compete”.

The Hungerford Town side – who will compete in the Vanarama National League South this season after winning promotion via the Southern League play-offs – included the former Reading professional Nicholas Bignall as well as former Reading Town player Diak John and former Thatcham goalkeeper Paul Strudley while the ex-Binfield winger Luke Williams started the game for the Crusaders.

Hungerford also gave game time to former QPR and Reading midfielder Mikele Leigertwood and goalkeeper George Legg who has a two year deal with the Royals.
