Gary Wade is up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Clive McNelly Volunteer of the Season – Senior Club sponsored by Supporters Trust at Reading.

The Old Windsor men’s first team need at least a point from their final three East Berks Football League Premier Division fixtures to be crowned this season’s champions, but there is, as we all know, so much more that goes on behind the scenes at every club.

One nomination for the award said: “Gary is the driving force behind Old Windsor, who have been regulars in cup finals and title races in the EBFL for several seasons. This season a third men’s team have been added to the fold, and all three teams have been a successful. In this day and age and at this level many teams struggle to get 11 players out each week, due to Gary’s relentless work we get three strong squads out every week.

“Gary will mark the pitch, clean the kit (with the help of his wife) clean the changing room, work behind the bar, collect the subs and every thing in between, and given the opportunity even boot up and get on the pitch. Gary is what grass roots is all about and without people like him, clubs and grass roots wouldn’t be what they are. There is so much more that can be said about Gary, but I’m sure you’ll have heard and seen for yourself.”

Another added: “Gary Wade has been involved with Old Windsor FC since 1984 as secretary to the Sunday side before taking over as secretary for the Saturday sides in 1987 performing in every role from Player to Chairman since and is still signed on and willing to play if required. From Washing 3 kits every weekend, collecting and keeping tracking on all fees, organising club wear and making sure management and players have everything they need on a Saturday to enjoy the day including a fully stocked bar for afterwards. There is nothing Gary won’t do for Old Windsor and Old Windsor is nothing without Gary Wade. Being Club Secretary for many years to being Chairman for the past 3 years he is a man of many talents. Everyone in East Berkshire would have come across or know Gary and not one of them would have a bad word to say about him. Gary never takes the plaudits and fully deserves to be recognised and win this award.”

Yes! The awards are taking place at the marvellous Double-Barrelled Brewery in Reading and we’ll have food available. Tickets will be limited but on sale from 18th May. If you’d like to know when, so you don’t miss out, make sure you’ve signed up to our email newsletter here.

Scroll down to the bottom of this article for the nomination form. Before you do that though, here’s what the judging panel are looking for when choosing the shortlist.

What’s the story? Tell us exactly why the person or place should be considered. We hate to get all ‘X Factor journey’ on you but the more detail you can include, the better we can argue for your nominee for the short list.

The sort of details we love to see include things like player awards, goals, clean sheets and any other significant contributions to the footballing community – obviously within the 2025/26 season.

We’ll publish all the nominees for the Berkshire Football Awards as we receive them.

You can view all the 2025 nominees so far here.6

Want to know who’s previously won what at the Berkshire Football Awards? There’s a big long page with all the previous winners here.

Nominations will be open until midnight on Sunday 10th May 2026.

The Long List will be published on Friday 15th May and the Short List on Monday 18th May at midday.

Once the nomination window has closed, the nominations in each category will be put before a panel of over 20 judges for a decision, the top four announced online and the winners at the awards night on Wednesday 10th June.

We will accept nominations for people out of area, the only prerequisite is that the reason for nomination is that it must be because of an affiliation with a club we cover on Football in Berkshire (a full list is at the bottom of this page). We will present certificates and a trophy to the winners.

  • All nominations are done by you, the Berkshire footballing public
  • You can nominate as many people as you like for each award – the quantity of nominations counts for the judging panel..
  • That said, quality is just as important, the more detail you provide about why you are nominating, the better
  • Please try and avoid nominating your own family members
  • Due to difficulties in obtaining permissions under child protection laws we won’t consider any player under the age of 16 for nomination in any of the categories
