Westwood Wanderers manager Devonn Reid has been named ‘King of the Buses’ by his employer Reading Buses at a glittering awards ceremony.
Not content with being King of the Bosses after his Manager of the Season win at the Berkshire Football Awards last summer, Reid has now been crowned Reading Buses Star of the Year for his actions at work over the last 12 months.
A statement released by the Reading business revealed: “Devonn took the title of Driving Star after being star of the month twice during the year – once for intervening when two passengers were making other passengers uneasy, and the second for stepping in to help after a serious accident happened in front of his bus, even though he wasn’t involved.”
Those actions culminated in the Westwood manager being named Star of the Year at the end of Reading Buses 14th annual ‘Night with the Stars’ event that seeks to recognise and reward those people within the company who have done great things over the previous 12 months.
Robert Williams, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer said: “We have a fantastic team at Reading Buses who keep our community moving with passion and dedication, and we want to recognise and reward the best of the best.
“An amazing night was had by all and we are so happy that Devonn is our new Star of the Year. He has embodied all of our company values this year and is a very popular person around the depot and beyond. The other two stars were equally worthy, but were just pipped to the post.”

Outside the depot, Dave Wright recently interviewed Reid who said about his football manager aspirations: “Hopefully, in a year or two’s time, we will be in a position to move up to a higher level of football, step six, and then hopefully go as high as we possibly can.
“Getting Westwood to the highest level possible is my main goal for the club,” added Reid. “It is not going to be easy, but I am going to do my best to achieve that dream.”

Wright added: “Devonn could personally lift an award for the second year in a row. Last June, he was named Manager of the Year at the annual Football in Berkshire awards, and the judging panel will have to search hard throughout the county to find a more deserving candidate than Reid this year.”
Just like buses Devonn will be hoping more than one trophy arrives at the same time this summer. Westwood could lift a historic quadruple, a season on from the treble of the Thames Valley Premier League title, Berks & Bucks FA’s Charles Twelftree Trophy and the Berkshire Trophy Centre Senior Cup as well as the new Thames Valley Premier League FA Cup.
It will certainly be interesting to see the sort of reception Devonn gets when Westwood return home to Denefield School in Tilehurst on Saturday when they face Newbury Town (2pm).
