The 2024/25 season is racing to its conclusion and there are several teams vying for the lift marked ‘going up’. Here’s a run down of what to expect over the last weeks of the season.
Don’t open that trap door: Maidenhead United and Thatcham Town in the mire while Bracknell Town have work to do
Champions
Windsor & Eton are the champions of the Combined Counties League Division One, of that there is no doubt, after Westside failed to beat Brook House in midweek. Matty Angell’s side will likely take their place in the Premier Division North next season as a famous old name takes the next step.
Ascot United’s women’s first team are also champions of the Southern Region Women’s Football League and should move up to the FA Women’s National League South West Division One next season alongside Maidenhead United.
In the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division Two, Caversham AFC are the champions after finishing two points clear of Easington Sports. In Division Three South Windsor & Eton are the title winners in their first season.
Title contenders
Westwood Wanderers are likely to be crowned Thames Valley Premier League champions for the second season in succession – and beating closest challengers Maidenhead Town on Monday night [they did] will move them a step closer. However if Town win and make the most of their games in hand it could be a tight finish.
In the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League Division Three West Burghfield need a point to clinch the title. Defeat though to Tilehurst Panthers and a not inconceivable big win for Headington against bottom of the table Thatcham & Newbury Town could see it fall from their grasp.
Play-off chasers
Hungerford Town have an outside chance of the play-offs in the Southern League Premier Division South but would need to win all three of their final games. A point for Dorchester Town on Friday at Frome Town or a win for Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday against Bracknell Town would knock them out of the running.
Ascot United still have work to do to secure a spot in the Isthmian League South Central Division One play-offs but they are the side in possession and have a game in hand. The Yellas have four to play with teams all the way down to Raynes Park Vale in ninth in with a chance of making it.
In the Combined Counties League Premier Division North it will likely be either Burnham or Holyport who will take the final play-off spot with both having two games to play. There is a chance both could make it – if Harefield United blow their advantage (and the form guide suggests it’s not inconceivable) and Holyport have certainly bolstered ranks should they get over the line.
