Slough Town marched on in the 2024/25 FA Trophy with a 2-1 win at home to Vanarama National League Maidenhead United.

Dubbed the ‘SL Classico’ – a first meeting of the sides outside of the Berks & Bucks County FA Cup served up a bumper crowd of 1,770 – according to the excellent Bluesky account NonLeagueCrowds – the fifth largest of the day outside the Football League.

The Rebels took a 2-0 lead through Slavi Spasov and Lexus Beeden in dreadful conditions at Arbour Park, Beeden’s coming in the opening minute of the second-half, no doubt a gut punch for Alan Devonshire’s Maidenhead.

The Magpies did find a way back in five minutes later when substitute Joseph Ajose latched on to Reece Smith’s cross while Will De Havilland and Smith himself all went close.

The Rebels were able to see out the game and have earned an away day at National League North Kidderminster Harriers. Harriers famously of course, were the lowest-ranked side left in the Third Round of the FA Cup in 2022 and knocked Reading FC out after winning 2-1, signalling the beginning of the end for manager Veljko Paunović.

Kidderminster are currently in the play-off spots in the National League North, looking to earn a return to the top-tier of non-league football having been a Football League club between 2000 and 2005.
