Sam Lock has been nominated for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Manager of the Season (Men’s Game).
Lock – who announced he was stepping down from his Holyport role this week – was part of the backroom staff under Derek Sweetman before taking the top job in 2022.
One nomination for the award said: “Sam is one of the most driven, passionate and intelligent managers I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He gives his absolute all to the boys and pushes them to be the best they can be, even when that means passing the players on to higher-level clubs. He puts countless hours of work in behind the scenes to ensure the boys are working hard, bettering their knowledge of the game on and off the pitch. His commitment to the team is simply unmatched, even getting myself and others to text him live updates of the games when he’s away on holiday. Being able to say he’s taken “little old Holyport” from a mid-table team to possibly making play-offs this season just shows it all.
Another added: “Outstanding leadership and management in taking a very small club/fish into a bigger pond and swim safely with the big sharks without getting bit badly too often. Developed and given opportunities to good young players with a hunger to improve and compete.”
