Reading FC Women goalkeeper Jacqueline Burns appears to be nearing a comeback for the Royals according to pictures released on social media.
In April, Football in Berkshire reported: “Reading FC Women goalkeeper Jacqui Burns will miss the FA Women’s Super League run in, the club has confirmed.
“Specifying only ‘an extended period of absence’, the Royals goalkeeper has suffered an Achilles injury.”
Joining Reading in the summer of 2022 from BK Hacken, Burns dislodged long-serving stopper Grace Moloney last season and was part of the Northern Ireland squad that played in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 tournament in England.
Burns is one of only a handful of players to remain with Reading after relegation from the FA WSL and the switch to part-time status. Her return will see her compete with on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Emily Orman – with the departure of Rose Kite now perhaps a little less surprising.
Reading – who have confirmed the departure of Danish midfielder Sanne Troelsgaard – are in FA Women’s Cup action on Sunday at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The match is to be played at Aldershot Town (ko 2pm).
