Marc Surtees and Brian Lackey are up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Manager of the Season sponsored by Eddie Stobart Logistics.
Marc is a previous winner of this award back in 2018.
One nomination for the award said: “What a season it has been for Woodley United Ladies with the guidance of these two fantastic managers and coaches. It was a tough season for Woodley last year being relegated from the Southern Region Premier Division. This season was always going to be tough with recruitment too. Pre-season started considerably early to make sure we were in the best shape for the season ahead. The season started slow, we were still trying to recruit and gel as a new team. Brian came in, started coaching and figured out a new formation for us to work with. There was one game where it finally just all clicked, and that was Caversham away. We then went on an unbeaten run, winning 10, scoring 42 and conceding only 1. This is genuinely all down to the support and dedication of Marc and Brian. They instilled this desire and drive into us all, their dedication and this hunger to succeed rubbed off on all of us. We trained so hard, Brian is an unbelievable coach which we have learned SO much from and I think Marc won’t mind me saying that he also has learned a lot from Brian. We were crowned Champions of the Division 1 North and deservingly too. These two are amazing people, amazing coaches and have given up so much of their time to lead us to an incredible season. What a season
Another added: “Dream Team Alert!! After being relegated at the end of last season, Woodley Ladies had to rebuild. Brian came on board to work alongside Marc to make this happy. Marc and Brian work so well together and this shows to the ladies. They give up countless hours planning training sessions, match day warm-ups and chatting throughout the week to discuss the team in general. Both of them do it out of the goodness of their heart and they both show so much passion. The support and guidance of Marc and Brian showed this season as the ladies won their league in style and have now been promoted back to where they belong.”
