The impressive ‘Wearing The Red & Green – A History of Windsor & Eton FC’ is up for a Berkshire Football Award in the category of Best Community Campaign or Content.

Launched by Michael Gegg in the summer of 2022, the book chronicles the complete history of the Royalists from 1892 to the club’s sad and sudden demise in 2011. During the season it has become a thriving Facebook group and podcast.

One nomination for the award said: “Michael has put in so much time and effort to create me so many great memories of WEFC. He has created social media pages which have attracted hundreds possibly 1000’s of followers, he had written a book amongst many other things. My favourite are the podcasts with past WEFC players all of which were absolute legends! And not forgetting the rerun of the FA Cup game WEFC vs Bournemouth all proceeds of which went to a local charity.”

Another added: “I am making this nomination as I feel that Michael Gegg has gone above and beyond in not just bringing back a whole community of Windsor and Eton fans and former players to reminisce the good and bad times of the club through his book, Facebook page and Twitter account but at the same time doing it for a very worthy cause in a child’s home charity. As a former player of Windsor and Eton FC\/Windsor FC, it has been so refreshing to have the opportunity to reunite with ex-colleagues and supporters that I would never have had the chance to if this hadn’t happened.”

Agree that Michael Gegg’s book should be up for the Best Community Campaign or Content award? Or do you have something else in mind? Let us know in the nomination form below:

The sort of details we love to see include things like player awards, goals, clean sheets and any other significant contributions to the footballing community – obviously within the 2023/24 season.

We’ll publish all the nominees for the Berkshire Football Awards as we receive them.

You can view all the 2024 nominees so far here.

We will accept nominations for people out of area, the only prerequisite is that the reason for nomination is that it must be because of an affiliation with a club we cover on Football in Berkshire (a full list is at the bottom of this page). We will present certificates and a trophy to the winners.

  • You can nominate as many people as you like for each award
  • Please try and avoid nominating your own family members.
