Our women’s football correspondent, Abi Ticehurst, caught up with players from across the county after the opening weekend of the 2021/22 season. Here’s what Amy Lambden, Shannon Daly and Kirsty Currier had to say as part of our new Full-Time Thoughts feature.
S4K FC Berks County Ladies 3-1 Yateley United Ladies
S4K FC Berks County compete in Division 3 South of the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League, they were division runners up in the 2020/21 season.
Before the game, the team were on a buzz from last week’s game and the sun helped the mood! Yateley started off a stronger side and proved this but going 1-0 up! The teams determination for this year’s league allowed the 1-1 draw before half time. The seconds half took a turn, S4K’s sideline supporters and chants changed the teams spirit and we all worked and pushed together to get out 3-1 we deserved. It’s a great atmosphere being in this team after joining in July and I cannot wait to see us progress.

Slough Town Ladies 7-0 Harefield United Ladies
Slough Town compete in Division 2 of the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League, having been runners up and successfully promoted from the Division 3 East in 2020/21.
Sunday was another great win for us 4 out of 4 and sitting at the top of div 2 we started off very quick with some nice passages of play and a great worked goal to start us off with an assist from me for Abz first of the day, we were in control throughout the game, everyone won their individual battles throughout the pitch and worked hard for one another including the changes that were made with a big impact made with Alice Heady coming on scoring 2 and assisting 4, there was also a further 3 goals from Abz and a great solo run from Lauren to score her third of the season and also an assist from Nikhita who work tirelessly and a well deserved player of the match, an all-round great team performance with flawless defense. Harefield are a very young and physical team and have great potential. We go again next Sunday as we go head to head with Kidlington who are also undefeated. I look forward to an exciting season as we continue to work hard and collect more points.

Wargrave Women Development 2-2 Taplow United Ladies (Penalties 2-4)
Taplow United Ladies compete in Division 3 South of the Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League. The team finished fourth in the division last season.
I thought it was a well fought game with us edging towards favourites in the last twenty minutes but unable to score the vital extra goal. Therefore a well deserved win for us on penalties and extra special for us considering we had so many team members unable to join us for the game. Nail biting penalities, particularly when Abbie’s first was a miss but disallowed and then she scored it on retake!
