As of Monday 29th March, grassroots football is back in Berkshire and competitive men’s Sunday League football will now also return to Reading in the 2020/21 season.
Following the curtailing of the Reading & District Sunday League season, announced earlier this month, Caversham United and East Berkshire Football League side Hype Train FC have combined to create the Reading Sunday Social League (RSSL).
The RSSL will see an 8-team league comprised of Reading-based teams play each other once each, over 7 gameweeks, from April 11th to early June. The league fixtures will take place across three teams venues; Rivers Ibis Club, Berkshire County Sports Club and Linear Park. The Billy Goats and Sunday League debutants Hype Train will be joined by Woodley Saints, Rose and Thistle, Southbank FC, Tilehurst Titans, New England and Thames Valley Railway to battle it out to be crowned the inaugural RSSL Champions.
Ascot-based business Lens Digital UK will proudly sponsor the league, which you will be able follow across the 8 clubs’ social media channels as well as on the Football in Berkshire website.
Founder of Lens Digital, Andrew Spiers, a keen supporter of grassroots sport said: “I’m delighted Lens Digital has been able to support the creation of the Reading Sunday Social League. It’s been a long winter and I hope that this competition will give the clubs involved something to look forward to and finish off the 2020/21 season in some style.”
Arguably the pick of the Gameweek 1 fixtures sees Sunday League newcomers take on the well-established Woodley Saints. Whilst fans are not permitted to attend the Gameweek 1 fixtures on April 11th, per FA guidance, they are openly welcomed to all remaining fixtures as long as observing social distancing rules.
If you are planning to attend one of the matches, please check ahead with the clubs involved for confirmation of the fixture taking place.
