Competition may have officially been ‘curtailed’ by the Football Association for the 2020/21 season, but that hasn’t stopped clubs and competitions planning ahead for some sort of competitive action before the summer.

The Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League tweeted on Thursday night it had begun planning for a supplementary competition in April and May, subject of course to the current Government roadmap out of lockdown being followed through.

The league’s official Twitter account revealed tentative details: “The Board has decided there will be a supplementary competition in April & May based upon mini-leagues and then a semi-final and final. Entry will be optional. Full details will be sent to clubs tomorrow [Friday].”

Responses to the plan have been overwhelmingly positive but there remain questions around the curtailed league season and how that will be finished – the 2019/20 season was declared null and void.

Meanwhile, the chairman of CCL Premier Division side Ascot United, Simon Negus has announced his clubs plans for the remainder of the current season – subject to formal announcements: “If leagues carry on we will obviously continue in those, and if they decide to end the season we will look to organise our own programme of friendlies against local clubs, plus a number of tournaments across the summer.”
