Football in Berkshire’s Women’s Football correspondent Abi Ticehurst takes a look back at the 2019/20 season, speaking to representatives of every Berkshire club.

Answers to her big questions come from manager and coach Phil Stafford and centre back Charlotte Clarke, who also coaches the U8’s, of Thames Valley Counties Women’s Football League side Caversham AFC Ladies.

What’s the best thing about playing/working for the club?

Phil – The sense of community and togetherness, I felt very much welcomed and a part of the club from day 1. The team all stand by each other and all work hard for each other, makes my job as a coach 100 times easier!

Charlotte – The best thing about working and playing for the club is the support and friends you meet along the way.

What’s been your favourite moment at the club?

Phil – A couple of moments stand out, I arranged an extra training session out of my normal time for my UEFA B final session to get signed off. I wasn’t sure how many I would get, I had 17 players attend and I got signed off!

The other time was just before lock down, we played Banbury in the cup quarter final 110 mile round trip with 1 sub who had just got back from a holiday, we won 1-0!

What are you doing during this extended break to keep yourself on top of your game both on and off the pitch?

Phil – For me, I’ve been doing some online learning, writing down some new ideas and just taking it day by day really, we have a group chat so everyone keeps talking on there which is good.

Charlotte – I’ve been doing some home training to help keep me fit and ready for the season.
