The FA Sunday Cup is coming to Berkshire after it was confirmed the tie between St Joseph’s (Luton) and Portland would be played in the Royal County.
Maidenhead United’s York Road ground has been chosen to host the tie which will feature one of the competitions most recognisable sides in St Joseph’s owing to the clubs five final appearances.
Last season’s final took place at Peterborough United’s London Road ground with Buckinghamshire side Aylesbury Flooring beating Birstall Stamford 3-1.
The FA Sunday Cup semi final draw:
- Peterlee Catholic Club vs Campfield
- St Josephs (Luton) vs Portland
Both ties are due to be played on Sunday 29th March, kick off 2pm.
What is the FA Sunday Cup?
Inaugurated in 1964 after the Football Association lifted the ban on competitive football being played on a Sunday, the FA Sunday Cup was a knock out competition for Sunday League sides.
The competitions most successful side is Hetton Lyons Cricket Club who won the competition four times between 2006 and 2012 but it is St Joseph’s (Luton) who have reached the most finals, five between 1994 and 2006 – winning two of them.
A glance at the previous winners list would suggest their has been at least one Berkshire winner after Theale beat Marston Sports 3-2 in 1991/92.
127 clubs entered the 2019/20 competition, a glance at the list would suggest no Bracknell or Reading Sunday League sides entered.
