The M4 motorway is closed in both directions between junctions 12 (Theale) and 13 (Chieveley) again this weekend from the evening of Friday 8th December until Monday morning.
It is the second of four planned weekend closures for the main route which links Berkshire, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire and caused havoc for clubs trying to get to and from fixtures with Binfield forced to play in Tuffley Rovers third kit after the Moles kit was caught in traffic.
In the weekends Hellenic Premier Division fixtures there are no less than eight fixtures that could be affected by the closure with Bracknell Town’s trip to Longlevens, Binfield at Brimscombe & Thrupp and Woodley United at Royal Wootton Bassett Town likely to be of concern to East Berkshire based supporters.
The other ties likely to use the route include Fairford Town at Ascot United, Tuffley Rovers at Burnham, Highworth Town at Highmoor Ibis, Flackwell Heath at Lydney Town and Thatcham Town at Windsor.
The closure is less of an issue for clubs in Division 1 East thanks to the regionalisation but Didcot Town will almost certainly need to be aware ahead of their trip to Sandhurst Town. Our friends at Get Reading have the full low down on why the closures are necessary and when the last two road closures are due to take place.
To get around the closure the best advice is to take the A4 at junction 12 and head west or the A34 and join the A4 in the opposite direction but the route will undoubtedly be busy in both directions with the extra traffic.
