Reading FC Women’s goalkeeper makes England senior squad

Following a fine season, Reading FC Women goalkeeper Mary Earps has been called up to the senior England squad for November’s friendly against Holland.

Earps will compete with 55 cap Manchester City goalkeeper Karen Bardsley and Liverpool Ladies Siobhan Chamberlain but will miss a reunion with former Royals team mate Fran Kirby who misses out through injury.

Reading’s number one will get an early look at new Royal Mandy Van Den Berg in the friendly with Holland, the defender is the Dutch captain and is the first signing for Reading manager Kelly Chambers in the 2016 close season.

The Nottingham born goalkeeper started her career at Leicester City and joined Reading in February 2016 from Bristol Academy – making 14 appearances as the Royals secured their WSL1 status.

Earps was part of the last England ‘Next Gen’ (effectively the under 23s) squad which trains alongside the seniors and has been promoted up.

Reading’s Molly Bartrip and Lauren Bruton have both been included in the ‘next gen’ squad.
