Reading Senior Cup: Race to the Madejski Stadium is hotting up

Henley Town will entertain Bracknell Town on Wednesday 20th April in the quarter final of the Reading Senior Cup (RSC).

This cup is unique in the sense that unlike FA, County FA and Uhlsport Hellenic League competitions which are an open draw, the full draw for the entire RSC is mapped out before the competition starts.

Bracknell’s wait

After seeing off Frilsham & Yattendon 6-0 at Larges Lane in December, it’s been a long wait for Mark Tallentire’s side to see who they would face in the quarter final.

The first round match between AFC Aldermaston and Woodcote Stoke Row was postponed a few times but finally played at the end of February with Woodcote winning 2-0.

Henley played Stoke Row in the second round on 12th March winning 3-2 to book their quarter final against the Robins.

The other quarter final in our top half of the draw sees an all Thames Valley League battle.

Division One leaders Westwood United will host Premier Division leaders Marlow United and whoever wins that encounter will travel to Henley or Bracknell for a place in the final at Reading’s Madejski Stadium.

Tasty

The bottom half of the draw is very tasty indeed.

Highmoor Ibis have already booked their place in the semi-final after seeing off Thames Valley League side Mortimer 2-1 in the quarter final last month.

They will host either Binfield or Wokingham & Emmbrook in the semi-final with those two meeting in the quarter final on Monday 18th April.

The Moles defeated Woodley United 10-1 last round whilst the Sumas came through a high scoring encounter against a good Reading YMCA side 6-3

It is expected that both semi-finals will take place end of April with the final during the early part of May but those exact dates won’t be known until after the quarter finals have taken place.

The Reading Senior Cup presents a great opportunity for Tally’s side to reach the Madejski final whilst they also have a Bluefin Sports Hellenic Supplementary Challenge Cup quarter final at home to Wokingham & Emmbrook on Thursday 7th April to look forward to.
