Thames Valley Premier League Newbury are going back to their roots with a series of changes off the pitch.
Football in Newbury has a complicated history through the 1990s and early 2000s. The original side founded in 1887 dissolved in 1995, there have been successor clubs and numerous name changes since as efforts were made to get the town and team back up the pyramid.
‘Returns’ then have very much been the order of the day for the club over the summer after a less than successful return to the top-tier of the Thames Valley Premier League saw the club finish bottom on eight points.
The clubs historic Faraday Road ground returned to active duty during last season and over the summer former striker Danny Langford was appointed as the new chairman. Carl Jenner has been appointed as manager.
Now following an AGM vote, a series of changes are being made that includes a new name, colours and badge for the 2025/26 season.
A statement on the club’s Facebook page revealed: “Following a unanimous vote at last night’s AGM, we are excited to announce some major changes! Firstly, we will! be reverted back to our original name, ‘Newbury Town’. Additionally, you will notice our colour change back to red and white. Reminiscent of the days of AFC Newbury. Finally, we are introducing a new, bold, fresher, and more modern-looking logo.”
