Sandhurst Town will have a new face in the dugout next season – and a new one in the boardroom after sweeping changes at the Combined Counties League side.
Relegated on the final day of the 2024/25 season despite a credible 1-0 defeat at ‘are they/aren’t they’ champions Jersey Bulls, the Fizzers will begin 2025/26 back at Step 6.
A statement put out on Monday night by the club’s social media account revealed a change in the boardroom: “We are working to finalise Sandhurst Town FC’s new ownership structure. Subject to Combined Counties League and FA approval, Bob Ryan will assume complete control of the club as the new owner.”
In the dugout meanwhile, manager Adam Barnard revealed he would be leaving the club. Writing on Twitter he said: “My time has unfortunately come to an end. Gutted is an understatement, but understand and respect the decision made and am seeking my next opportunity.”
In a longer message, Barnard added his thanks to former Bracknell chairman Andy Hunt: “First go at leading a team from leaving a great Burnham side and whilst I’m gutted about our league position, I don’t think I would have done it any other way as I know I have learnt so much in 9 months.
“A huge thanks to Andy Hunt for giving me my first opportunity. His remit was to build a team that was competitive (1 week before season started) at step 5 with no budget, develop players and play the right way.
“Anyone that knows me, knows I am a bad loser and just want to win, so this season has been tough from that perspective but we have a lot to be reflective and proud of:
- Average age of c19
- £0 budget
- Furthest Sandhurst have been in the FA Cup since c2007
- 5 Step 3 debuts including our captain and top scorer at the time
- 3 Step 4 debuts
- A large quantity of men’s football debuts
- Beating 3 of the top 6 including FA Vase finalists and likely winners!
- Consistently high training numbers
- Played a great brand of football
“Unfortunately, the league position doesn’t lie. We were competitive for 90% of the season but the game is about fine margins and this inexperienced group (including management) ended up on the wrong side on this occasion too many times.
“I have to also pass on my huge appreciation and gratitude towards my team. Carl, who has been an absolute rock all season and ‘uncle’ footy, who has been a great shoulder for the players all season and someone that bridged the gap well between myself and the plavers.
“Lastly, I want to wish Kayne SB and Bob Ryan all the best and have no doubt our paths will cross again in the future.
“My phone is on and I am hungrier than ever to go again next season, wherever that may be.”
