Maidenhead United chairman Peter Griffin will offer an update on the clubs situation in a supporters meeting on Wednesday 11th December.

Pressure had been building at the club after a run of six defeats that culminated in a 5-0 loss at home to Gateshead on Saturday. That pressure eased somewhat on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win at Braintree Town.

Regular Berkshire football followers will recall the Magpies earned a not insignificant sell on fee from former defender Max Kilman’s transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers to West Ham United in the summer – thought to be around £4million.

At the time of the transfer, Griffin wrote on the club website: “Ultimately this is a fantastic outcome for club which will benefit from one of the largest, if not the largest, transfer payments an English non league club has ever received, which is something to celebrate. This is testament to the hard work of Alan Devonshire and his coaching team past and present, as well our Academy programme which every year is developing players which move into our first team squad.

“This is a momentous day for Maidenhead United FC, which gives us the opportunity to profoundly change the future of the club.”

Despite the cash injection, it was always unlikely the Magpies would be anything less than sensible with the money and remain a part-time club in what is predominantly a full-time division.

Writing on Tuesday however prior to the win at Braintree, Griffin wrote that he was well aware he’d promised supporters an update and has now set a date to deliver: “Following the sale of Maximilian Kilman from Wolverhampton Wanderers to West Ham United over the summer, I promised an open meeting with supporters discuss the implications of the income we are receiving from the associated sell on clause and the future of the club.

“I fully appreciate an update is well overdue and am grateful for the patience which supporters have shown in the intervening period. There is no doubt that transfer fee we are receiving because of Max’s sale was an important outcome for the club, particularly given the disappointment and uncertainty created by the decision made by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead councillors to withdraw their support for our proposed ground move. Our challenge remains, however, to make sure we make the right decisions to secure the long-term future and benefit of the club for all, which I do not take lightly.”
