Vanarama National League South side Slough Town have confirmed player/manager Scott Davies will remain in charge at Arbour Park for the 2023/24 season.
Former Reading FC and Wycombe Wanderers pro Davies took over the reins from long-serving duo Neil Baker and Jon Underwood last season and led the Rebels to safety.
A statement released on the Slough website said: “Since becoming manager in November last year, Scott guided the club through a turbulent period during which there were a number of changes to the squad – and after Christmas, positive results started to flow, with a seven-match unbeaten run in National League South – stretching from Boxing Day into February – along with big home wins against Hungerford Town and Chippenham Town going a long way to ensuring the club maintained its status at Step 2.”
There will be a slightly smaller backroom staff for the Rebels next season though after Lee Togwell announced his departure, but Davies did confirm Tony Fontenelle would remain as assistant manager.
Davies said: “The work that has already been done by the new ownership and the current board has been brilliant to see. To have an average attendance of over 1,000 people for the last four home games of the season has shown that Arbour Park is a special place to play football when the place is rocking. In addition to that, I believe it’s only just the start of getting people through the gate and it’ll get bigger and better with the engagement plans the club has in place with the local community.
“With Togs (Lee Togwell) departing, that leaves Yella (Tony Fontenelle) and I to carry the mantle. Yella will be extremely important as an assistant to me, someone who brings a different dimension to the management team with his experience and knowledge of the game.”
