Slough Town supporters are coming together to raise money for centre-half Ryan Bird who was badly injured in the Rebels Vanarama National League South home defeat to St Alban’s City at the weekend.
Slough skipper – and Bird’s defensive partner – Mark Nisbet lamented: “It was horrendous. He went up for a header and has come down and badly damaged his knee. I was nearest to him and his knee was all over the place. Birdy is a big man but he was screaming with pain”.
The damage is likely to necessitate an operation which could possibly rule Bird out for several months. The ex-Maidenhead player – who played in the EFL with the likes of Portsmouth, Cambridge United and Newport County – is an electrician by trade and the Rebels loyal followers have set up a Go Fund Me page to help support their stricken star and his family.
