Berks County’s Wildcats sessions have returned for the 2021/22 season. What exactly is Weetabix Wildcats? ‘non-competitive football for girls who want to give it a go for the very first time or want to play with other girls their own age. Most importantly, Weetabix Wildcats is all about having loads of fun and meeting new amazing friends.”

The sessions have proved so popular that the club have been able to start up an Under 11’s Wildcats team and the side have kicked off the season with their first competitive fixtures.

It’s not every day you turn up to a Wildcats session and are politely greeted by a star of the WSL, but that’s just what happened to Berks County Wildcats on their final session of last season as Reading FC women striker Emma Harries.

We caught up with Emma to ask her what she thought about Wildcats, “I think that the wildcat sessions are vital in allowing all girls to enjoy playing football. I think the coaches are extremely passionate about developing young players for the future. When I was playing, these session weren’t a thing and I had to jump into boys football. Having an environment which is just girls will hopefully encourage more girls to participate in the game. The women’s game has evolved loads over the last couple of years and I’m excited to see the future generation. I hope that I can be a positive role model for any young girl wanting to play.”

Berks County Wildcats is run by coaches from EPC and a number of players from the club’s women’s team, S4K FC Berks County Ladies. Sessions run every Saturday morning from 11:30-12:30 at Garth Hill, opposite the Lexicon and are open to girls aged 5-11.
