Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One side Holyport have a number of long-serving players in their ranks including Steve Deverall, Alan Akerman and Daniel Rapley.

None though can quite match the 11 years service so far of Lee Ovens.

The club presented Ovens with a Silver Salver and signed Stoke City shirt on Saturday 12th September. Manager Derek Sweetman and chairman Tony Andrews presented Lee with these awards as he made his 300th appearance for the club after a prolonged layoff due to Covid-19.

Ironically, it was Thame Rangers who Holyport should have faced back in March before the season was cancelled. Lee skippered the side on Saturday in the clubs 3-0 home win in front of 90 spectators.

Lee joined the club in 2010 and made his debut against South Kilburn, Lee has been an ever present since and his contribution both on and off the pitch is highly valued.  Lee is happy to help wherever he can and has continued to play through injury. Notably two seasons ago when he broke his arm away at Chalvey Sports but continued to play as ‘it was just a broken arm’.

Since the Thame fixture, Ovens has added another two appearances to his tally, but we all remain eagerly awaiting goal number seven.
