Wokingham & Emmbrook boss Clive McNelly has announced that fan favourite Darren Thorne will be his assistant for the forthcoming 2016/17 Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 East campaign.

Speaking to FootballinBracknell McNelly said: “I am pleased to be able to tell you that Darren Thorne has agreed to be my assistant manager for this season. Darren has a long history with us and I’m sure all his experience with be a massive aid to both Jamie Shepherd and myself.

“Darren will bring his own style of man management while lifting the already buoyant team spirit! He’s not hanging his boots up just yet either, as he hopes to do the job as player/assistant manager.”

Wokingham lost their opening game of the season at Didcot Town Reserves on Saturday but have had plenty of reason to celebrate of late with planning permission granted at their Lowther Road ground and a victory in the Martin Joyce Memorial Trophy last week against Binfield.
