Sam Barratt returns to Maidenhead United after loan spell in style

Sam Barratt returned from his loan spell at Staines Town in some style, scoring twice for Maidenhead United in their 2-2 draw with promotion rivals St Alban’s City on Saturday.

Barrett was rewarded by Magpies manager Alan Devonshire for an excellent spell at Staines with a start for top-of-the-table United and duly repaid his manager with a brace, the first a stylish run across the box on 20 minutes and the second an impressive far post leap on 50 minutes.

The result keeps Devonshire’s side eight points clear at the top of the Vanarama National League South with just over half the season’s games played and a ten day break on the cards before the Magpies face a Berks & Bucks County Cup semi-final against neighbours Slough Town at York Road.

On Barratt, the winger has used his spell away wisely. The youngster has been quoted as saying his sites are firmly set on becoming a professional footballer – and when you come back from a loan spell and have the dedication and attitude to be in the starting eleven for your parent club at the first opportunity it’s hard to argue that this dream won’t become a reality.
