Thank goodness pre season is over and the serious business can begin this Saturday. One manager in the Hellenic League this week described pre-season as ‘a long and boring process which has got to be done’, so what have we really learnt this summer?
Slough Town picked up where they left off last season when winning promotion and are expected to bag their first three points in National League South at the first opportunity this weekend.
Half of their league matches are at Arbour Park this August and I would back them to hit double figures in points come September 1st.
Mick Woodham was leaving Windsor and then he was not, and he has bemoaned a lack of availability upon his return to the dugout since.
Do not let that fool you though. Windsor have key personnel missing through injury or suspension in the opening weeks, but could be slow burners and somewhat under-estimated as the season progresses.
I am confident Mick would not have returned unless he backed the club to better their finish from last season.
One to watch
Aiden Higgs is a name worth noting at promotion-chasing Burnham. He scored twice in their pre-season win last weekend and is well-touted to make an impression at The Gore this season.
Congratulations to Derek Sweetman and all involved at Holyport on winning the Supplementary Cup in midweek – one trophy in one match for Derek, who is one of the nicest men I have met in football.
Further down the leagues, keep an eye on Delaford from the East Berkshire Football League in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy this season.
The club is supported by an already successful Colts section and won the league and cup treble last term. It would not surprise me if they claimed the scalp of some senior clubs in the County Cup this season.
Finally, good luck and happy supporting to everyone involved with Football in Bracknell. Fingers crossed we can enjoy a season like the last one!
