Football in Berkshire caught up with Darrel Evans and Georgia Graham for their post-match thoughts after both sides played out victories against their fellow Berkshire compatriots in the Second Round Qualifying of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
Eversley & California Ladies 2-4 Caversham United Women
Caversham United faced Eversley & California having played out a convincing win over Warminster Town Ladies in the First Round Qualifying. Eversley took the lead initially as they went 1-0 inside 10 minutes with Aimee Charman opening the scoring, but Caitlin Levy shot from 30 yards and the Goats were level and moments later, Freya Jenkins made it two. Eversley came out guns blazing in the second half and equalised early on to make it 2-2 with a goal from Megan Averill, but a corner taken by Holly Swan curled into the top corner to put Caversham ahead again. The Goats wrapped things up when Jenkins took an indirect free-kick just outside the box to put them 4-2 up and through to the next round.
“The game got off to a sloppy start for us, conceding an early goal. However, we went on to dominate the first half, creating several clear cut chances before Caitlin Levy’s 30 yard screamer levelled the game. Freya Jenkins then put us ahead with a neat finish from a tight angle. We started the second half poorly, conceding from a corner which was disappointing. The game was much scrappier in the second half but the girls dug deep and managed to get two more crucial goals courtesy of Holly Swan and Freya Jenkins again. It was a well contested game, a proper cup tie but we deserved the victory in the end. We are very much looking forward to our next tie away at QPR!”

Ascot United Ladies 3-0 Tilehurst Panthers
Perhaps not the start either side expected as Ascot and Tilehurst went into the break with the scoreline at 0-0. But it looks as though Ascot switched play up a notch and hit the ground running as they entered the hour mark and in quick succession they were 2-0 up. First Nicole Brown who was set up by Sarah Leonard and just two minutes later as Emma Hutton put one in the back of the net with another assist by Sarah Leonard. Brown put things to bed for the Yellawomen in the 85th minute to secure the three points and put and take Ascot through to the next round.
“First I like to say we’ll done to Tilehurst Panthers who were well organised and a young talented team who will do great things in the coming seasons. It was a good performance from us on the day. The team had to be patient as Tilehurst made it difficult for us but we got our rewards eventually with two quick goals midway through the 2nd half. I like to thank all the supporters at the game and to the girls section players who were our Mascots today and ball girls and Carol Checkley for organising that. This is the first time we have reached the 3rd Qualifying Round and to now get another home draw we can do it all again with the incentive to reach the 1st Round proper.”
