It’s been an impressive start to the season for Hungerford Town in the Vanarama National League South. The Crusaders finished the curtailed 2019/20 season bottom of the league but the arrival of Danny Robinson had seen the side go off with a bang, winning five and suffering just one defeat.
Hampton & Richmond Borough – fresh from an FA Cup tie with Oldham Athletic on Sunday – were the visitors on Tuesday night to Bulpit Lane and were able to end the Crusaders unbeaten home run with a 1-0 win.
Boss Danny Robinson spoke to Hungerford’s media team and although he was disappointed with the result, he remains proud of the ‘blood’, ‘sweat’ and ‘character’ his side continue to show.
“In parts good, in parts bad. It was a mistake, unfortunately. I said in the changing room, if they can give every sweat, every blood and character which we’ve shown right from the moment I walked through the door, I’m OK with it.
“Hampton & Richmond Borough are a fantastic side. They made changes from the side that pushed Oldham all the way, but at the end of the day I’m proud, but we have to learn and we have to make sure that mistakes don’t happen.
“I felt we lacked a bit of composure in the second half, but to be disappointed that we haven’t got anything out of a very good side just shows what strides we’re making.”
