The magic of the cup is here! The Extra Preliminary Round of the Women’s FA Cup took place on Sunday to confirm one Berkshire team’s place in the Preliminary Round as Woodley United Ladies faced Wargrave Women at Bishopswood Sports Ground.

Football in Berkshire women’s football correspondent Abi Ticehurst spoke to manager Marc Surtees to get his post-match thoughts.

“I thought we played well today, we created a number of chances before we went 1-0 down but he ladies kept going and kept playing their football.”

“We eventually got level with a good finish by Molly Lambourne. In the second half, we continued to play good football and were very solid in defence. The pressure paid off when we got our second and then pushed and got another couple of quick goals, one being a free-kick from then outside of the box by Ellen Surtees. Molly Lambourne completed her hat-trick from the penalty spot before Wargrave scored a second good goal.”

“We were very pleased with the performance and work rate from the ladies today and are looking forward to the next round at home to Milton United.”

We look ahead as the Preliminary Round takes place in two weeks time, on Sunday 20th September, with no less than five local fixtures in play.
