An era is at an end at Ascot United after the club and manager Jamie Tompkins parted company by ‘mutual consent’.
Tompkins led his side to the Isthmian League South Central Division One play-offs this season, losing out to Hanworth Villa in the semi-finals, but that is only a fraction of what the Yellas boss achieved over seven years at the club.
Without a doubt, Jamie Tompkins is the Yellas most successful manager in its 59 year history. The Hellenic League Cup, the Combined Counties League Premier Division title, the FA Vase and national recognition for a club that in 2007 was playing Step 7 football in the Thames Valley Premier League.
A statement released on the club website said: “Ascot United FC can confirm that, after seven memorable years, Jamie Tompkins and his management team will be stepping down from their roles with the First Team by mutual consent.
“Jamie and his team have been integral to an extraordinary chapter in the club’s history, leading the team in 337 matches and delivering unforgettable achievements along the way.”

Appointed in 2018, succeeding Neil Richards in the dugout, Tompkins had been the Yellas Development Team manager. At the time, then chairman Mike Harrison wrote: “We can look forward with real optimism to next season in the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League, with Jamie at the helm, a young and improving squad and Neil leading football development throughout the whole club.”
Little did he know what was to come.
Tompkins time at the club has been one of only going forward. He has blended an abundance of youth at the clubs disposal with sensible and seasoned players – Ian Davies, Chris Ellis, Ben Harris – you could even put ‘young’ George Lock in this bracket now.
Tompkins and his management team’s departure has unsurprisingly led to a number of players calling time on their careers at the Racecourse Ground – Harry Grant, Joe Gater, Mark Scott, Nathan Jones, Anas Igozouln and George Butler are all departing while Ben Harris announced his retirement earlier in the month.
